Save the DVLA
6/2/2012
On 13 December 2011, Mike Penning, the Minister with responsibility for the DVLA, announced in the House of Commons the start of a public consultation on a document entitled Transforming DVLA Services, which proposes to close down the Agency's network of 39 local offices and centralise their work at DVLA headquarters in Swansea. This will result in 1200 jobs being lost.
The closures of the local offices would mean:
- No face to face contact with DVLA staff
- Impersonal and less effective service
- Public directed to distant call centres and computer workstations
- Long-standing and close links with the motor trade severed
- Detrimental effect on the service offered to the motor trade, with the resulting negative impact on business
An e-petition has been registered with the UK Government gateway. Your Union is asking you to show your support against the closure of local DVLA offices by adding your name to the DVLA e-petition.
