For the road ahead

National Living Wage now £7.50 an hour

The National Living Wage increased from £7.20 to £7.50 on 01 April 2017.This 4% rise, which is recommended by the independent Low Pay Commission, is the equivalent of a pay rise worth over £500 a year to a full-time worker.

Although any increase in the National Living Wage is welcome, it was considerably lower than many were expecting with unions, including URTU, describing it as "measly" compared to the crisis currently gripping the country.
