Relaxation to enforcement of drivers' hours rules ends March 31

25/3/2021

The current, temporary relaxation of the enforcement of the retained EU drivers' hours rules is due to end on March 31.

This closing date is under constant review, but the Department for Transport (DfT) have said that there is currently no intention to extend the relaxations beyond the end of March.

The relaxation was brought in as a response to the exceptional pressures on the freight industry due to the continued consequences of coronavirus (COVID-19).
In January, DfT introduced a temporary relaxation of the enforcement of the retained EU drivers' hours rules in England, Scotland and Wales for drivers involved in the international carriage of goods by road and between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
