Road Safety Week

22/10/2010

The United Road Transport Union (URTU) is again supporting Road Safety Week, which takes place this year from 22-28 November.

Road Safety Week is an ideal opportunity for haulage companies across the UK to show their support for road safety and help save lives and we would like you to try and get your employer involved in this year's event.

The theme this year event, which is organised by road safety charity Brake, is ‘Kids Say Slow Down!' Children will be holding media launches in major towns and cities telling drivers that ‘20's Plenty' in towns and villages.

Every week in the UK, an estimated 12 people are killed by drivers going above the speed limit or too fast for the conditions, making speed the biggest killer on UK roads, and devastating families.

Brake is urging companies and communities to use Road Safety Week to promote this theme, or to launch road safety programmes of any kind!

For more information, go to www.roadsafetyweek.org. If you click on ‘Companies' you can order your FREE poster pack and a company campaign manual, which gives practical advice on dealing with the risks of speeding among at-work drivers, and ideas for promoting a slow down theme within the workplace and surrounding community during Road Safety Week.
