Welfare Reform Bill

URTU has given its support to the Public and Commercial Sevices Union's (PCS) campaign against parts of the Welfare Reform Bill.

There will be a lobby of Parliament on 03 March. The lobby has been called to raise concerns about the Welfare Reform Bill, which includes plans to require the parents of young children to be available for paid employment, tougher benefit penalties for claimants, the abolition of Income Support and a new compulsory ‘work for your benefit' scheme for unemployed people. The Bill also includes measures to facilitate the contracting-out of the Social Fund and services currently provided by Jobcentre Plus.  At a time when unemployment is rising rapidly, the Government is wrong to make the social security system harsher and more punitive.

The lobby will take place in committee room 14 at the House of Commons from 12.30 to 2.30pm.
