Apprenticeships are Union Business
22/10/2009
Apprentices get a better deal with trade unions on their side. Unions encourage employers to take on apprentices. They negotiate fair pay and equal treatment as well as tackle discrimination based on age, race, gender, sexuality and disability. They work to ensure that each apprenticeship is of high quality and that time off for study is always given.
The TUC is holding short seminars across the country to share information and good practice in this key area. There will be speakers from the National Apprenticeship Service and the TUC Apprentices project. Further information about TUC Education courses will be available. The seminars are designed to help you:
Look at how 21st century apprenticeships work
Consider the union role in supporting apprentices
Recruit and organise apprentices
Plan joint work with the National Apprenticeship Service
Plan next steps in your workplace and union
