URTU Welcomes 'Two Britains' Study

22/7/2011

The United Road Transport Union (URTU) has welcomed a study published by the University and College Union (UCU), which shows 'two Britains' divided by a wide educational gulf and huge local variations in levels of education.

Speaking after the release of the study, URTU Union Learning Fund Project Manager, Mark Rowe said;

"The importance of improving access to adult education is not lost on URTU members, some of whom leave the school system without any formal qualifications. We have long been associated with improving the skills and abilities of our members and, over the past 10 years, we have strived to provide all levels of education. URTU understands that education, coupled with positive learning experiences, is central to the future of the logistics industry and, working with various partners, we will continue to improve educational opportunities.

"The present restrictions to those wishing to access adult education is to the detriment of this country's long term future. We will continue to work with our partners, and develop new partnerships, to try and overcome the barriers that are now presented to many within our industry."
