We are the Champions
9/8/2011
Our trade union has achieved what bigger trade unions couldn't. One of our learning centres has beaten all others to achieve the largest amount of new learners to register and participate in the Basic IT skills, government / TUC backed website ‘My Guide'.
This is a website that enables staff at workplaces to get those much needed IT skills, and send them on the rocky road to success.
All URTU workplace learning centres have been registered as ‘My Guide' centres, which has now had a name change to ‘GO-ON', including URTU Head Office (details are on the URTU website members section with a link to the ‘GO-ON' website).
One joint learning centre, which stands out above the rest is Clipper Logistics workplace in Nottinghamshire. It has dedicated URTU ULRs, a supportive HR manager, and staff who are eager to learn. Craig Toms, HR manager, and long time supporter of trade union education said, "We are proud of our staff and the effort they have given to learning new skills. Becoming top learning centre is a great opportunity to show how working with URTU has helped support our workers and Clipper Logistics."
Producing the best in education, in partnership with companies like Clipper Logistics, and creating a level that other organisations need to follow, proves the point, smaller can be better! URTU has shown that there are no barriers to giving support to its members, especially in education.
Education can be the key to trade unions proving they care about all people. Be proud of what you can achieve with your own life. If there is the chance to educate, take it. If there's a chance to pass it on, take that chance. After all, in the world of learning centres, "We are the Champions!"
