1,400 Modern Apprentice places within the Scottish logistics sector
27/1/2010
Skills Development Scotland has recently allocated funding for some 1400 Modern Apprentice 'all age' places within the Scottish logistics sector.
Chris Campbell from Sector Skills Council ‘Skills for Logistics' commented,
"This is excellent news for the Scottish freight sector and recognises the importance of this industry and its needs in terms of staff skills and training. Most of the places are for the MA in Driving Goods Vehicles but there are also some for Warehousing and Supply Chain Management."
Chris continues, "As far as the Driving Goods Vehicles MAs are concerned here is a great opportunity for Professional Commercial Vehicle Drivers to have their work skills recognised by vocational qualifications.
"Unlike passing tests and exams which are required to gain the appropriate vehicle driving licence the MAs are based instead on assessment of personal and work competencies. Help will be given if needed by way of additional training and some of this training may also count towards the new Driver Certificate of Professional Competence requirements.
"Drivers who gain vocational licences and Driver CPC can now have their professional status further acknowledged by way of a funded Modern Apprenticeship".
