Extension of the temporary relaxation of the enforcement of the retained EU drivers' hours rules: All road haulage sectors in Great Britain

The Department for Transport has, pursuant to Article 14(1) of the retained EU Drivers Hours Regulation, laid regulations to extend the temporary relaxation of the enforcement of the retained EU drivers' hours Regulation in England, Scotland and Wales, until 31 October 2021.

Please note that from 4 October 2021 the relaxation allowed on daily driving has been modified slightly.  Drivers can now increase their daily driving limit from 9 hours to 10 hours four times a week, instead of 9 hours to 11 hours twice a week.

Please see link below to the updated notification on for details:

Although this will extend the relaxation which began on 9 August 2021 without a gap it is separate and will require a separate initial notification form to be sent to the Department.  Please note that you still need to send the Department the follow-up form for the former relaxation after the 3 October 2021 (but by 10 October), giving details of if/how the relaxation was used, how you assessed the risks and what control measure you had in place to ensure safety.
