For the road ahead

Joint URTU and DHL Book stall helps learning and local charities

18/9/2018

URTU Learning are leading the way again by bringing new initiatives to the workplace to get members, and non-members, involved in learning.

This time, it has been taken up by Joanna Richards (URTU Branch Secretary, Shop Steward and Health and Safety Representative) and Justyna Mura (URTU Union Learning Representative) at DHL, Octavian Park, Wellingborough. With DHL they have started a second hand book stall with all proceeds being split between two charities.

Staff at the depot chose the Cransley Hospice and Animals in Need, Northamptonshire as the charities to receive the proceeds. The event itself was organised by Joanna and Philippa Robinson (DHL's Communication and Engagement Officer).

The second hand book stall works by staff bringing in old books DVDs and CDs and then supporting the event by purchasing something from the stall. All books DVDs and CDSs are priced at 50p each and the money is placed in an honesty box.

The second hand book stall has been very well supported and Joanna has said that it had been a great success.

This is great work by Joanna and the branch at DHL, Octavian Park, Wellingborough who have worked together with the Company to make the second hand book stall a great success.

This event not only benefits staff in the workplace but also extends to the wider community who will also benefit from the money raised for the Cransley Hospice and Animals in Need, Northamptonshire.

This also has wider implications for URTU Learning as many in the local community may not have heard of the great work it does. Some may not have even heard of trade unions. What better and more positive introduction could there be than this.
