New National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage rates
24/3/2021
The new National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage rates will come into force from April 2021 after the Government accepted in full recommendations made by the Low Pay Commission.
The National Living Wage will increase by 2.2 per cent from £8.72 to £8.91, and will be extended to 23 and 24 year olds for the first time.
For workers aged under 23, Commissioners recommended smaller increases in recognition of the risks to youth employment which the current economic situation poses.
Nearly all workers aged 16 and over are entitled to the National Minimum Wage. This includes part-time workers, fixed-term workers, agency workers, casuals, those on ‘zero-hours' contracts and homeworkers. But the minimum wage can vary according to your age and type of work.
As of 1 April 2021 the hourly rates will be:
National Living Wage - £8.91
21-22 Year Old Rate - £8.36
18-20 Year Old Rate - £6.56
16-17 Year Old Rate - £4.62
Apprentice Rate - £4.30
Accommodation Offset - £8.36
