Temporary relaxation of the enforcement of the retained EU drivers' hours rules: All road haulage sectors in Great Britain
11/4/2022
The Department for Transport has, pursuant to Article 14(2) of the retained EU Drivers' Hours Regulation, gained the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport to temporarily relax the enforcement of the Regulation in England, Scotland and Wales, from 9 April until 8 May 2022.
The temporary relaxation of the rules reflects the urgent situation arising from the cancellation of some ferry services. This is resulting in queues at ports affecting the carriage of goods and passengers by road.
Please see the attached notification for details on how the rules are being temporarily relaxed.
Operators wishing to make use of this relaxation must notify the DfT by completing the attached "initial notification of relaxation form until 8 May 2022" and e-mailing a copy to FOLRnotification@dft.gov.uk within 24 hours of starting to use the relaxations. The attached "follow-up notification of relaxation form until 8 May 2022" must be completed and e-mailed to FOLRnotification@dft.gov.uk one week after the end of the period of relaxation and by 15 May 2022 at the latest.
